Allergy treatment

What is allergy?

An allergy is the body’s hypersensitive reaction to substances (allergens) that are usually harmless to others — such as pollen, dust, animal dander, specific foods, or medications. When exposed, the immune system overreacts, leading to symptoms like:
At Ojas Ayurved, a leading Ayurvedic clinic in Pune, we offer personalized allergy treatment in Ayurveda, addressing not just the symptoms but the root dosha imbalance causing them.

Vata-Type Allergy

Characterized by dryness, irregularity, and nervous system sensitivity. Common symptoms:

  • Dry cough
  • Eczema or dry, itchy skin
  • Constipation and bloating

Our approach includes Vata-pacifying herbs, warm oil therapies, and grounding routines.

Pitta-Type Allergy

Associated with heat, inflammation, and hypersensitivity. Common symptoms:

  • Hives and rashes
  • Allergic rhinitis (runny nose, sneezing)
  • Acid reflux or loose motions

Cooling, anti-inflammatory Ayurvedic medicines for allergy such as Neem, Guduchi, and Triphala are used to balance Pitta.

Kapha-Type Allergy

Kapha allergies manifest as congestion, heaviness, and excess mucus. Common symptoms:

  • Sinusitis
  • Bronchitis
  • Asthma and chest tightness

We recommend Kapha-reducing therapies like Panchakarma detox, Sitopaladi churna, and steam inhalation with eucalyptus or tulsi.

Most Popular Questions

Ayurveda focuses on a "permanent" solution by addressing the root cause—low immunity (Kshamatva) and toxin accumulation (Ama). Unlike conventional medicine that only suppresses symptoms with antihistamines, Ayurvedic treatment at Ojas Ayurved desensitizes your body to allergens. By purifying the blood and balancing the Doshas, we help your body stop overreacting to external triggers like dust, pollen, or certain foods, leading to a long-lasting and often permanent recovery.
In Ayurveda, allergies are primarily caused by an imbalance in the Kapha and Pitta doshas, combined with a weakened digestive fire (Agni). When digestion is poor, the body creates Ama (metabolic toxins), which circulates in the blood and settles in the respiratory or skin tissues. When you encounter a trigger, these toxins cause an inflammatory response, resulting in symptoms like sneezing, itching, or rashes. We treat allergies by clearing these toxins and restoring digestive balance.
For acute symptoms like a sudden skin rash or hay fever, patients often feel relief within 3 to 7 days of starting treatment. However, for chronic or seasonal allergies that have persisted for years, a comprehensive treatment plan of 3 to 6 months is usually recommended. This duration allows the body to undergo a full detoxification cycle and build a robust immune shield (Ojas) to prevent future recurrences.
Dietary discipline is critical in allergy management. You should strictly avoid "Abhishyandi" foods—those that cause congestion and block body channels—such as curd, heavy fermented foods (Idli, Dosa), and refined sugar. Cold drinks and ice creams should be avoided as they aggravate Kapha. We also recommend limiting "Viruddha Ahara" (incompatible food combinations), such as mixing milk with sour fruits or fish, as these are primary triggers for chronic skin and respiratory allergies.
Panchakarma is the most effective way to "reset" an allergic immune system. For respiratory allergies (Asthma/Rhinitis), Vamana (Therapeutic Vomiting) is used to expel excess Kapha from the chest. For skin allergies (Urticaria/Eczema), Virechana (Purgation) is used to flush out Pitta toxins from the liver and blood. Additionally, Nasya (Nasal Drops) is highly effective for nasal allergies as it creates a protective oil barrier in the respiratory tract, preventing allergens from entering the system.
